The Mermaid Lounge is bringing you three Blissful Cabarets this Fall and Winter, each inviting us into a completely different magical world.
Our evenings begin with an immersive cabaret of burlesque, pole dancing, comedy pole, musical theatre, dance, magic, live music and other creative performances - all inspired by a different era, theme and plant spirit medicine. 🌿✨
Then, as the cabaret comes to a close, the stage becomes the dance floor and the evening transforms into a joyful, playful dance party. 💃✨

Enter the decadent world of Belle Époque Paris, where absinthe was celebrated by artists, poets and bohemians as a mysterious muse — and where the Green Fairy comes alive. 🧚♀️✨

Come find your character. Follow your curiosity. Bring your artistry to the stage. And then dance the night away with us. 🧜♀️✨
🎭 THE JOURNEY TO THE STAGE
Being accepted into a Blissful Cabaret means becoming part of a creative ensemble.
While each performer brings their own unique act, character and artistry to the stage, we also come together to create the shared choreography, transitions and theatrical magic that weave the evening into one immersive experience.
Performers accepted into our cabarets will commit to attending Friday late-afternoon or evening choreography and creative practice sessions, with the exact time to be determined.
Our Practice sessions & Dress Rehearsals will be facilitated by our Cabaret Director, Alex Polecat
Alex is an accomplished performer, pole dancer, teacher and theatre director with decades of performance experience. Alex's own acts range from comedy and theatrical performance to fire and pole, and he brings an incredible sense of joy, creativity and playfulness to everything he does.
Our Friday sessions are an important part of creating the magic together, so please consider your availability when auditioning, as attending the Practice Sessions & Dress Rehearsals are required by all of our performers, in order to ensure the best possible Cabaret we can dream up. ✨

If you're interested in exploring pole dance as part of your cabaret journey, you may also wish to join one of Alex's Pole Dance classes at Ambassadora Studios, home of the Mermaid Lounge in Gibsons.
Whether you're brand new to pole or looking to develop your skills as a performer, Alex's classes offer a playful and creative space to build confidence, movement, strength and stage presence.

Curioser and curiouser…
Something strange is happening down the rabbit hole.
The flowers are whispering.
The mushrooms are blooming.
The clocks have stopped making sense.
And a very curious Rabbit is waiting for us to follow.
For our first Blissful Cabaret of the Fall, we’re leaving ordinary reality behind and tumbling into a psychedelic Wonderland inspired by Alice, mushrooms, dreams, transformation, curiosity and the beautiful nonsense of the unknown. 🐇🍄✨
Imagine enchanted gardens, strange little creatures, talking flowers, mad tea parties, psychedelic colours, glittering dreams and realities that keep changing when you’re not looking.
This is Wonderland after dark
🍄 THE MUSHROOM SPIRIT
Our mysterious muse is the mushroom - a symbol of transformation, imagination, altered perception, interconnectedness and the strange magic hiding beneath the surface.
It might be a character.
A portal.
A guide.
A temptation.
A transformation.
Or simply a little psychedelic magic woven through the evening.
Follow it wherever it takes you.

We are calling in burlesque dancers, singers, dancers, comedians, actors, magicians, musical theatre artists, circus and movement artists, sexy skit creators, live musicians and curious creatures of all kinds.
Bring us something whimsical, psychedelic, sensual, hilarious, theatrical, surreal, magical or completely bonkers.
Take inspiration from Alice in Wonderland, mushrooms, psychedelic art, dreams, transformation, the Mad Hatter, curious creatures, enchanted gardens and your own imagination.

Welcome to the Roaring ’20s Speakeasy - a glamorous, mischievous, cannabis-inspired world of jazz, cabaret, burlesque, vaudeville, secrets, seduction, comedy, magic and a whole lot of jive. 🌿✨
For this Blissful Cabaret, we’re stepping into the decadent world of the Jazz Age: flappers, feathers, fringe, pearls, Art Deco glamour, underground clubs, mysterious characters, rebellious artists and late-night revelry.
We are calling in flappers, burlesque dancers, jazz and cabaret performers, vaudeville artists, singers, musical theatre performers, comedians, actors, dancers, magicians, musicians, sexy skit creators and theatrical mischief-makers to bring this secret world to life.
Imagine a hidden speakeasy tucked behind an ordinary door.
Inside, the music is playing.
The champagne is flowing.
The Blissful Mocktails are being poured.
The performers are preparing backstage.
And somewhere in the room, somebody is definitely up to no good.
🌿 THE CANNABIS SPIRIT
Cannabis is woven into the evening as a creative muse and plant spirit - evoking imagination, sensuality, relaxation, connection, playfulness, altered states, curiosity and creative expansion.
Perhaps she is a mysterious muse.
Perhaps she is a character.
Perhaps she appears through your costume, music, movement, comedy or story.
Perhaps she is simply a subtle thread running through your performance.
You might find yourself exploring reefer jive, jazz cabbage, a little botanical mischief, dreamy altered states or simply the deliciously rebellious spirit of the forbidden.
How you interpret it is entirely up to you.

Enter the world of La Fée Verte.
Where velvet meets candlelight, artists become dreamers, and the night belongs to poets, performers, bohemians and beautiful creatures of the imagination.
We are calling in burlesque and cabaret dancers, chanson and vocal artists, theatrical dancers, comedians, actors, magicians, musicians, poets, mimes, circus and acrobatic artists, musical theatre performers, and theatrical dreamers to step into this world with us.
For our third Blissful Cabaret, we’re journeying to Belle Époque Paris, into the decadent world of cafés, cabarets, artists’ salons and late-night revelry.
Imagine emerald velvet.
Black lace.
Art Nouveau flowers.
Champagne-coloured candlelight.
Poets scribbling in the corner.
Painters chasing inspiration.
Musicians filling the room.
Dancers emerging from the shadows.
And beautiful Green Fairies drifting through it all.
🧚♀️ LA FÉE VERTE
At the heart of the evening is La Fée Verte - the Green Fairy.
Absinthe’s legendary muse.
A symbol of artistic inspiration, bohemian freedom, sensuality, mystery, imagination and dreaming beyond the ordinary.
For this cabaret, she is not simply a drink or a historical reference.
She is a spirit. A muse. A character. A feeling.
She might be seductive.
She might be mischievous.
She might be dreamy.
She might be dangerous.
She might be a beautiful stranger who appears at midnight and changes everything.
And she may appear throughout the evening as our Green Fairies welcome guests, serve our Blissful Mocktail elixirs, wander through the room and perhaps even find their way onto the stage.

You might be a Parisian artist.
A cabaret star.
